Bobby Hogan had asked at one meeting why they couldn't just wait for the Holyrood site to be ready before, in his words, "setting up shop". Peter Brent, the civil servant, had stared at him aghast.
"Because Scotland needs a Parliament now."
"Funny, we've done without for three hundred years...."
This is from the book I'm reading at the moment "Set in Darkness". It's Ian Rankin's 11th Rebus novel. I thought I would share the coincidence with you since Bobby put the Scottish Parliament on the blog. I've never read Ian Rankin before. I picked up the book for 20p at the school fete. But I think it is very good - much better than I expected. I would recommend him.
Just one thing I would like to add about the Scottish Parliament. Don't those sickening wet Liberals really disgust you? I can't stand looking at them or listening to them - even if I agree with them. Ross Finnie!
I'm pretty disallusioned with all of the main parties. At least the Liberals are anti-war.
ReplyDeleteI've not read anything from Ian Rankin but I like him on Newsnight Review. Don't read fiction as a rule but might give him a try one day.
I like Rebus. I've read a load of them.
ReplyDelete"Wet Liberals", Gerry? You are getting very intolerant in your middle age!
When I think of the cost of the Parliament I always compare it to the cost of Wembley. Or the fucking Royal Family.
