This blog was conceived after the Scottish Cup Final of 2004 when Celtic played Dunfermline. The idea was discussed in The Last Post pub in Paisley late at night as a means of allowing us to share news, opinions and post links of mutual interest. The date of the Final was 22 May.
I have never read Larkin apart from this poem, which is brilliant. Man hands on misery to man (agreed) and it deepens like a coastal shelf (not so sure). I read the other poems on the webpage - all very good but more than slightly depressing. Put me in a sombre mood. One day in the library about a couple of years ago I was looking at some poetry and came across Benjamin Zephaniah who did a version of Larkin's original - it wasn't as good. I tried to find it on the web but couldn't but you might likethese.
