Opus

Opus was the name of the other record shop that you remembered Bobby. I couldn't even remember the shop never mind what it was called. But I have my contacts!

  1. Sorry about two posts on the same thing I didn't think my computer was working but it was just making a fool of me as usual.

Off to watch Arsenal should be a good game. I hope they win. It would be a great final with Barcelona.

  2. Gerry,

Was in HMV and they have a boxed Bruce Springsteen "Born To Run" item that contains

    1. Born to Run CD
    2. Making of Born To Run DVD
    3. 1975 Hammersmith Odeon Concert DVD (two hrs long)

    for £14.99

Dont know if you are still into him but seems a bargain.

Been listening to an album "Sufjan Stevens invites you to Come on feel the Illinoise" by a guy called Sufjan Stevens.

Cant get it out of my head.

Also watched DVD "A History of Violence" by David Cronenberg. Enjoyed it a lot. Worth checking out.

  3. Thanks for that Billy I got that for Christmas but so far I have only listened to the CD. I started to listen to Springsteen again a few years ago when I got The Rising out of the library. I liked it and I also got Devils and Dust. The title track is excellent. But there are a whole load of years where I don't know any of his stuff. I see he has a new album which looks interesting.

I don't know Sufjan Stevens what kind of stuff is it. I like getting different stuff out of the library. Today I got "The Incomplete Glenn Tilbrook" and "Pete Townshend and Raphael Rudd". Its a good way of listening to what you wouldn't be sure of buying - then copying it. One week I got Ricky Tomlinson - Music My Arse. It did exactly what it said on the tin.

I don't buy much. But I am thinking about some early Bowie albums that I never got into. I am also thinking of buying the new Roddy Frame as I copied his last two albums which makes me feel a bit guilty. I'd also like to listen to more Roseanne Cash as I've heard a few songs that I like. I ended up having to buy the Artic Monkeys myself. I think its pretty good.

  4. Gerry,

Heres link to review of the Sufjan Stevens album in Amazon

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0009MWAPW/202-5870906-9126218

Do not have a good record library in East Lothian.

When I was in Edinburgh I used to borrow stuff to see if I'd like it, a good way to QA before buying.

Been reading "Punk Rock - An Oral History", a series of interviews tracing the origins, rise and fall of punk. I must be the only person in UK who was into the Velvets and did not try to start a punk band.

Anyone watch "The Wire" on channel FX. HBO program abouts cops trying to bust a drug baron in Baltimore.
Very realistic with some good actors.

HBO seems to be raising the bar as regards TV programs. Is anyone else in "Curb Your Enthusiasm"?

  5. Billy - I don't have HBO so can't comment but I'm a fan of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

I have A History of Violence on DVD so it's on my watch list.

The best sci-fi film ever made is on tomorrow evening - The Matrix is on ITV at 9pm (Monday).
