This blog was conceived after the Scottish Cup Final of 2004 when Celtic played Dunfermline. The idea was discussed in The Last Post pub in Paisley late at night as a means of allowing us to share news, opinions and post links of mutual interest. The date of the Final was 22 May.
BBC 4 were showing a week of the Maysles Brothers Season of documentaries. They showed "Gimme Shelter" a documentary by Albert and David Maysles recalling the events surrounding a free concert by the Rolling Stones at the Altamont Speedway outside San Francisco in 1969. Worried about the security, the Stones asked the Hell's Angels to keep order for them, but the day ended tragically as violence broke out and a fan was stabbed to death by the Hells Angels.
The film shows the chaos of the event and the underlying current of darkness and violence that seemed to overshadow the performance.
I believe its one reason why the Stones decided to start having greater control over their concerts.
However no excuse for the corporate nature that pervades most stadium rock.
