Bikers get our priorities right for us

A group of bikers are planning to demonstrate against the rising cost of fuel with a mass ride into Edinburgh.

One biker said they did not want lorry drivers to be the only focus.

One biker, who only gave his name as Stephen, said:"Indications are that there will be well over a hundred, possibly a lot more. There will be some classic bikes there too."

He said feelings within the biking community were high and the bikers were hoping to cause traffic disruption to highlight their views.

"It is really quite strong in the bike community," he said. "We feel that the spotlight is on lorry drivers but they are not the only ones and we want to highlight that by what we are going to do."

I have to say I wholeheartedly agree. Why should lorry drivers and hauliers get all the limelight?

While lorry drivers are worrying about the possible consequences for their livelihoods and providing for their families; bikers are stressed too; worrying that they might struggle to fill up the tank of their cock extensions more than just a few times a week.

Glad to see they are also getting their priorities right and getting some classic bikes along to the protest. A fuel protest just isn't a fuel protest without some classic bikes.

Analysts expect OPEC to agree to increase oil production by 2 million barrels per day, as soon as footage of the 5 mile tailback on the M8 reaches Riyadh

Drop your stereotyping specs to the bridge of your nose for 10 seconds, and consider the following.

Current levels of fuel tax and VAT cause YOU and everyone of us to pay 60% of the pump-price directly to the government.

Think about it - that affects every single consumer product and foodstuff you buy as its all delivered by vehicles with an engine.

Do you think all bikers are unemployed knuckle-draggers ? Do we hang around biting the heads off bats ? You sound like the Editor of The Sun from the 80's.

Many of us are employees who use diesel everyday, or employers who have to bear the cost of fuel to carry-out our business.
The cost of fuel is crippling us all - and is a primary source of Inflation - becasue everything on the bloddy Concumer Price Index relies on fuel as a manufacturing or distribution cost factor.

WAKE UP and take a stand.

  2. The price of petrol has risen because the price of crude oil has almost trebled in two years and doubled in one year.

YOU and ME have been paying 60% in tax at the pump for a long time. Tax is not the catalyst for 'sky high' fuel prices.

The fact is the world has passed it's peak of oil production and the price of petroleum products is only going to get more expensive from here to eternity, no matter what ANY Government anywhere in the world does.

This has NOTHING to do with tax, it's a geological certainty.

We need to diversify our economies to alternative fuel sources, the longer we leave it the greater the pain is going to be, and we've already left it long enough that it is going to be painful.

    WAKE UP
