FourWeddings best British film ever

The Hugh Grant movie Four Weddings and a Funeral has been voted the best British film of all time by a bunch of arseholes. The 1994 movie topped the internet poll ahead of David Lean's 1962 Oscar-laden epic Lawrence of Arabia which was criticised for being four hours long and containing no weddings at all. More.

  1. I have seen this film once. I now never watch those films with that crowd in it. Nobody but nobody should think that that is the best British film ever. What does that say about our culture or our educational system.

As for Lawrence of Arabia I've never seen it. Add it to Citizen Kane, Doctor Zhivago and Gone with the Wind. What does that say about me? Cultural philistine? Maybe Hugh wasn't that bad and what about Andi McDowall? Stop all the clocks I want to cry.

  3. Obviously I have shown myself up in this respect as I probably haven't seen most of the contenders. But for me If, Zulu and two that I find hard to watch for different reasons Kes and Don't Look Now. I also like the Beatles Help and A Hard Days Night. But since I can watch this again and again - Zulu.

  4. i liked trainspotting. i think the ideas, the dialogue, the acting and the music made it a good film. but then i don't see many films. i stll think that TP was exceptional.

  5. My favourite British movie is "My name is Joe", about a recovering alcoholic.

But Zulu. Trainspotting, The Life of Brian, that movie that Billy recommended (about the returning soldier whose brother was bullied), and, of course, Carry On Up the Khyber.

Biggest disappointment for me was Women In Love, which wasn't half as good as I'd hoped. :-)
