"The most disturbing thing about Barack Obama's call for financial reform was the way in which the president falsified our predicament. He tried to make it sound as though everyone was implicated in the financial breakdown and therefore no one was really to blame. The regulatory system was not overwhelmed by historic forces. It was systematically gutted and dismantled by the government in Washington at the behest of the banking interests." More.
Why aren't Reagan and Thatcher held accountable for the deregulation that ultimately caused the collapse?
That has to be a rhetorical question Bobby.
ReplyDeleteReagan and Thatcher are semi-daeties for the "free-market" propaganda shit the media corporations hit us over the head with every day to indoctrinate us with the notion that we live in a wonderful world of "free markets".
Try opening up a burger van next to a McDonald's and you'll soon get an idea of how "free" markets are in the wonderful modern democracies of today.
Here is a burger van next to McDonalds.
ReplyDeleteIts been there for years and I've yet to see any secret police activity.

No secret police definitely but I'm sure Mr Burger van owner got a strongly worded letter. Remember that chippy in Anstruther or wherever it was who were going to be sued by KFC over the use of the term 'Family Feast' even though the wee chippy has been using it for 20 years, much longer than KFC. These small enterprises are a deadly threat to businesses like McDonad's and KFC. They could be the difference between 200 million dollar profits and 199 million. These free marketeers have got to make sure they don't have to put up with unfair competition.
