Milan again

This performance may give some hope for the future. Progression beyond this stage looks extremely difficult. I suppose some people think that Milan are way past their best but we'll see in the next round.

I was watching Celtic TV last night and they were interviewing some people coming back from the game. One of these was Steven Doyle. It took me a bit before I recognised him. He gave his view of the game O'Dea was the best player, McManus also brilliant and Lennon a real captain's game. Came over as reasonably articulate. He let himself down somewhat when asked what he thought of Milan itself.

"Shithole" he replied.

  1. I thought this was a good performance from us, but we are really short of class up front. It was a real sickener to see Henrik still doing it at this level.

To advance we need to buy a couple of class forwards (although I'm not sure the type we need would come to Scotland), a replacement for Lennon and hold on to Boruc. In my opinion he is the best keeper I've seen at Parkhead.

Although it doesn't matter in terms of the league whether we beat Rangers or not, I think we are so much better than them that I expect a comfortable victory.

A draw or a narrow victory for us would let them think they are progressing. They are not. They are going backwards as evidenced by their recent purchases and plans for the summer.

  2. Definitely a decent performance on Wednesday. I feared we would be well beat but hoped for a scraped draw (which was on the cards for a while). As you say Gerry, hard to judge Milan but they're maybe not as bad as the laptop loyal would have you believe. Sorry I missed Stephen's interview on TV.

I agree with Diggy comments about the players - but thought Sno was dire throughout. Unless there's a (quick) transformation in this guy, I don't think he'll make it.

I have a feeling tomorrow will be a draw since Celtic are usually dire after a mid-week CL game - and Rangers are always dire - so a score draw for me.

Agree with the comments about the performance on Wednesday. The judgement on Sno is harsh - he has the potential but needs to learn when not to dive in and have a greater awareness of what's going on around him.
Plenty of encouragement from the CL campaign overall - similar but better than MONs team did in their first campaign. This is a much younger squad than MON had and there are clear signs that some, if not all, can play at this level. The campaign has also highlighted where our deficencies are and this should focus our transfer efforts over the summer.Like Diggy there is a need for some class up front and I believe also in the middle of the park.
I also saw Stephen Doyle on Celtic TV and surprisingly I found myself agreeing with his assessment of the game.
